Opening in August 2025, Passage will be Francesca Marti’s second solo exhibition at Pyo Gallery in Seoul, South Korea, which has recently relocated to its own three storey building in the Jongno District of the capital. This exhibition will include works from Marti’s latest series, including Refugees into Nature and Turning Chaos, as well as her large multi-panelled Mannequin, depicting a store dummy with groups of small figures traversing its face. Also featuring charcoal drawings, videos and installations, this exhibition traces the passage made by Martí’s small Believers sculptures as they migrate across both natural, leafy landscapes and urban settings photographed by the artist in Seoul, New York and Mallorca.
«My Believers represent different groups in our society, incorporating political movements, religious rites, expulsions due to war, travelers and commuters,» says Martí. «My new works also symbolise the beauty of our need to return to nature, and to respect our environment.»
Meanwhile, the Resilience video by Francesca Marti with Rohan Marley, charts the affinity and empathy between two people from different worlds, both of whom lost their beloved fathers when they were 9 years old. The friendship between the Spanish artist and the Jamaican-American entrepreneur grew from a chance encounter in New York. Their subsequent discussions lead to the creation of the Resilience video in Mallorca, based on the notions of transmission and heritage.
The Passage exhibition follows Francesca Martí’s 2014 retrospective at Pyo Gallery in Seoul dedicated to photographs, sculptures, paintings, video installations and performances from her series Fly, Soul, Tears and Scream. Pyo gallery has also presented Martí’s work at art fairs in Dubai, Cologne and Seoul.Works by Francesca Marti will also be exhibited at the booth of Pyo Gallery at the 20th edition of KIAF (Korea International Art Fair) in Seoul, September 2-7, 2025.
