In late October in Sóller, Francesca Martí spent a day together with her Swedish friend Alexandra Charles, a former nightclub owner and radio host, now best known for her work in women’s health and charitable organizations. Alexandra was in Mallorca to film a segment for a documentary currently being made about her life, directed by award-winning Swedish journalist and film-maker Folke Rydén.
In 1968, with her late first husband Noël Charles, Alexandra opened a membership restaurant-club called Alexandra’s in the centre of Stockholm (which existed in four successive central locations until 1988, and included Björn Borg, Abba and King Carl Gustaf among its regular clientele), and they ran another club in Barbados. Francesca and Alexandra have known each other for 30 years, and they were filmed in Mallorca while they informally interviewed each other in the studio and garden, reminiscing about various shared friendships and talking about life on the island. The new film and television documentary will be released in 2024.
